The Historic Dunlap Coke Ovens Park is a 62 acre park located in the heart of Sequatchie Country, Tennessee. Come explore the remains of 268 beehive coke ovens used in the early 1900's to convert mountain coal into industrial coke, a product used to smelt iron ore. This wooded park, found at the base of the Cumberland Plateau in the beautiful Sequatchie Valley, is open daily for self guided tours.

Dunlap, Tennessee is located in the geographic center of Sequatchie Valley. Dunlap is situated 30 miles north of Chattanooga, 50 miles from Crossville, 115 miles from Nashville and 120 miles from Knoxville.

The Historic Coke Ovens Park is located ¾ mile west of downtown Dunlap. If headed south on U.S. 127 through Dunlap, turn right on Cherry Street at the one and only downtown traffic light. Cross over railroad tracks and follow the signs to the Coke Ovens.

From Chattanooga, TN take US 27 to Dunlap exit via state highway 111 west.

What You Will Discover

Take time to explore the ruins of a once thriving industrial complex. Meander through the woods and explore an almost forgotten piece of history. Visit the museum where you will find photos and artifacts from the early 1900's. For those who are more ambitious, hike the 3900 foot incline to the top of Fredonia Mountain where you can see magnificent views of the valley while exploring the places where coal mining once thrived.

In the Park, admission is free and so is the parking. Plan to visit us. Any time of year is perfect. In the meantime, enjoy our site. Remember, the entire Park is in the Central Time Zone.
